how old are you?
24
where are you from?
Virginia
what was the first game you got hooked on?
The first game I ever played was pinball on a TRS-80 MC-10,
but I barely remember that. The first game I was truly hooked on was Stargoose. It's also one of the fist games
I ever beat. I didn't get hooked on multiplayer gaming until Quake 2 and Tribes.
what were you favorite games growing up?
Commander keen, moraff's revenge, duke nukem
how did Age of Time come together?
I worked on the Tribes RPG mod making skins and a few buildings,
then for a while I hosed my own server and experimented with coding things (hooray for abusing college bandwidth!).
When the Torque Engine came out (called v12 at the time) some of us wanted to make sequel. After a while things fell
apart and I was pretty bummed. Then I figured hey, I could just do it on my own.
are you working on Age of Time solo or do you have a developing team?
Solo.
what is the relation between Blockland and Age of Time?
Often I write code for one and then think of
some use for it in the other and port it over. I made the cloth system for Age of Time, then ported it over to Blockland
to change the character's face and chest decals. Then I made a system to change the body part colors for Blockland and
that became the dye system in Age of Time.
how long have you been working on Age of Time?
On and off for 3 years or so. I just work
on it when I feel like it, no real pressure.
what were some of the biggest problems thus far?
The biggest problems are the one's that I haven't
even started working on yet. How to expand past 30 players in a single server; how to link more than one server together;
how do you manage large numbers of buildings/items/monsters/whatever.
ever been hacked?
Not that I know of... The worst thing that's happened is that someone defaced
the phpBB forum a long time ago.
what is the future plans for the Age of Time world? any major updates soon?
Not soon. I'm pretty
busy trying to finish up Blockland right now.
when will male characters be added ?
Assuming that I can keep working on my own games after Blockland,
I plan to do a visual overhaul of the game and port it over to the Torque Shader Engine. I'll probably add male models
then.
what is the best sentence to describe Age of Time?
Barbie horse adventure, except with murder, police
brutality, dynamite, and a grappling hook.
what are you marketing plans for Age of Time?
Umm... my dog ate my plans. Then a bear at my dog.
Seriously though, I have no plans - I just sort of wing it. The guys on the garage games forums writing 200 page design
docs would be absolutely horrified at the way I operate.
any plans of going commercial at all?
Yes. Really it's the only way I can justify spending any
more time on it. It's all supply and demand, though. If the server gets completely full, then demand has outpaced
supply and you can charge people for a guaranteed space.
what is your funniest/weirdest story involving Age of Time?
So I'm giving some random dude a ride on
my horse. He's all star-struck to be playing with the developer and I'm acting all proffessional-like. Then we
swing past the cave and I hear some activity inside. So I ride inside and see a guy standing at the edge of the pit.
Without even slowing down I ram him into the pit, I turn around and leave and he dies. He never found out who did it.
